Great Lakes Kraut Company in Bear Creek, Wisconsin produces more
sauerkraut than the entire country of Germany. The operation annually requires 66,000 tons
of cabbage grown on an estimated 2,200 acres of Wisconsin farmland.
Americans have celebrated the 4th of July for centuries on their own but
Independence Day was not made a legal holiday by Congress until 1941.

The vision for Summerfest came from the late Milwaukee Mayor
Henry W. Maier. He made a visit to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany in the late 1960s and dreamed up
the idea for the legendary "world's largest music festival."
Wisconsin ranks tenth in the country in plastics employment with over 50,000
people working in the industry. Forward Wisconsin will be marketing the state at the National Plastic Expo in 2006.

Dear Reader,
Happy New Year! Well, at least it is for Forward
Wisconsin as July 1st marks the beginning of our
new fiscal year. We just finished the year strong
with a 65-person Wisconsin delegation in Philly last
month at the world's largest biotech conference -
BIO 2005 - and we'll soon be flying and swinging into
July with events at EAA AirVenture and the US Bank
Championship.
I am optimistic and energized as we kick-off our
2005-06 business marketing plan. We have already
scheduled a fall marketing mission to the Twin Cities,
as well as initiatives targeting the plastics and life
science sectors with additional special events to
reach out to site selection consultants. Plus, there
is definitely more on the horizon!
Thank you for your support,

Pepi Randolph

Western WI Office in Full Swing
Blang is new regional liaison
With the strong success of attracting business
expansions from Minnesota - Forward Wisconsin has
helped bring over 100 companies from there since
1987 - the value of a western Wisconsin office
director to work that market is critically important to
bring jobs to our state.
Enter former Forward Wisconsin President, former
utility economic development professional and
Fairchild native Dennis Blang. Since March of this
year, Dennis has been actively working Forward's
Western Wisconsin office in Eau Claire. His first
priority has been communicating Forward's renewed
commitment to western Wisconsin through meetings
with local leaders and giving presentations to area
groups. Given his familiarity with the area, he hit the
ground running in working toward that goal.
Next on Dennis' agenda is adding more focus on going
directly into the Twin Cities to form relationships with
site selection consultants and meeting with CEOs
interested in expanding to the state. He is already
cultivating contacts in the Minnesota real estate field
and has scheduled an October 11-13 marketing
mission to the Twin Cities. If you would like to
contact Dennis, he can be reached at 715.833.6666
(Eau Claire) or 608.261.2507 (Madison).

Honoring 100-Year-Old WI Companies
Centennial firms to be recognized at US Bank Championship
Wisconsin businesses, their leadership and employees
are known for their work ethic, commitment to
quality and drive. It's that tradition of excellence
and resiliency that has made Wisconsin's economy
persevere during the ups and downs throughout the
years.
On July 22, the Forward Wisconsin Board of Directors
and Governor Doyle (invited) are recognizing that
tradition of excellence and resiliency. Wisconsin
manufacturing-related firms that are marking their
100th year of operating in the state will be
recognized at an event on the grounds of the US
Bank Championship golf tournament.
We Energies is again sponsoring the business program
at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Governor Doyle
will present plaques to representatives from the 100-
year-old Wisconsin firms in the morning. Guests then
hit the course to watch the pros as they take part in
the second round of the PGA event. A thank
you to We Energies for their sponsorship.

Searching for CEOs at EAA AirVenture
Forward Partnering to Seek Business in Oshkosh
Billed as "The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration",
EAA AirVenture 2005 will take place July 25-31.
Forward Wisconsin will work in conjunction with area
development groups in staffing an exhibit booth and
gaining exposure with the business component of the
more than 800,000 that typically attend.
The thinking is pretty simple: if at least some of the
folks that attend the event can afford to buy a plane
for personal use, or they are active in corporate
aviation, then there are business executives and high
net worth individuals that could bring investment and
business to the state. The hard part is targeting
these folks from the large number of attendees.
However, after a number of years participating in this
event, Forward and its partners have more than a
few ideas on tackling that challenge. Jan Alf is
leading Forward's EAA effort and can be reached at:
262.691.7873.
