KEEPING YOU IN THE LOOP ON LOIS |
AUGUST 2005 |
|
|
Dear LOIS Administrator,
On behalf of Forward Wisconsin, I welcome you to
our publication called the LOIS Update. It has
been designed specifically for administrators like you
to help keep you up-to-date on what's new with
LOIS. This issue outlines recent changes that have
been made to the system and it includes a list of
enhancements yet to be made.
Enhancements are a direct result of the LOIS system
Advisory Council, which meets on a quarterly basis to
discuss issues about LOIS. I represent Wisconsin, as
a member of this group, and I welcome your
suggestions.
Thank you for your ongoing support,

Forward Welcomes Marinette County to LOIS
Forward Wisconsin would like to welcome communities
in and around Marinette to LOIS! Sharon recently

LOIS Completes Enhancements
- Color Aerial Map: LOIS has included new color
aerial maps in the Mapping and Radii Module.
- Button Label Modification: LOIS has changed the
name of the button in the Mapping and Radii Module
from "Find Target" to "Show Radii".
- Airports: ESRI has added airports to the Mapping
and Radii Reports.
- Auto Fill - City Name: In the administration
screen, LOIS has added a feature which will
automatically fill in the city name, based on the
locality you select, when adding a new building
or site.
- Back Button in Admin Screen: LOIS has
made navigating in the admin screens even easier by
allowing administrators to use the back
button.
- URL Address: A URL string has been hard
coded on the administration site overview page in
all sections. The system automatically builds the URL
for you, which makes it easy to copy and paste into
e-mail.

LOIS Plans Future Enhancements
- Web Trends Reports: Aquila, the company that
designed LOIS, is in the process of developing a fee-
based service for anyone interested in obtaining
statistical reports of LOIS activity based on your
unique user profile. More details will follow when
available.
- Linking to LOIS: The ability to link to any
page/section in LOIS from an external Web site will
likely be developed in late 2005. Currently, users can
link to sections or specific records but are taken
directly to the overview page.
- Hyperlinks: The ability to add a hyperlink in all
text sections, i.e. comments, is slated for
development in late 2005.
- State, County & Metro flyers: A quick reference
flyer for each of these sections is likely to be
developed in late 2005.
- Resource Guidebook: LOIS is currently working on
the guidebook, which will help you locate data for the
Localities section. It is due to be released by
sometime this month. LOIS has been posting some
useful tips on their Web site. You may view them by
clicking
here.
- Realtor Component: A component will soon be
added to allow realtors and brokers to enter data into
LOIS. Specific details to be announced.
- Shopping Cart Feature: LOIS administrators and
users alike will be able to check a box next to each
building that they would like to include in a
one-page PDF flyer.
- Modify Date Filter: LOIS Administrators will have
the ability to hide certain data according to date
parameters.

Forward Wisconsin Resets Buildings & Sites Filter
The filter which was set to hide buildings under
10,000 square feet has been turned off. We
determined that many of the smaller communities who
do not have their own Web sites would benefit by
having their listings appear on Forward's view of
LOIS.

Forward Posts Q&A Section on the Web
In an effort to accommodate the volume of questions
we receive, Forward Wisconsin has developed a Q&A
section on its Web site. See link below.

Forward Outlines Role of Multi-state Advisory Council
There are many other items on the list of
improvements to be made to the LOIS system. It is
the role of the Advisory Council, which meets
quarterly, to collectively prioritize the order in which
enhancements will be implemented. As always, if you
have any questions, concerns or ideas for improving
the system, please feel free to contact Sharon
Seffrood and she will pass this onto the group
for review. The next Advisory Council meeting
has been scheduled for the end of September.

LOIS Tips & Tricks
Linking LOIS to Your Web Site
You can integrate LOIS into your community's Web
site by setting up a hyperlink. To create the URL,
simply insert your username into the address and
indicate which section you would like the public to
view first. To follow is an example of a link that you
may copy and paste into your Web site. Simply
replace "wi-localityname" with your own username.
http://www.locationone.com/lois/logon.do?
username=wi-janesville&appsection=buildings. Be sure
that the address is space free, particularly the space
right before the letter "u" in the word username.
Check out the featured LOIS sites below to see how
other communities are displaying their links to LOIS.
