KEEPING YOU IN THE LOOP ON LOIS
|
MARCH 2006
|
|
|
Dear LOIS Administrator,
Recently, I attended the LOIS Advisory Council
meeting which was held on February 24. Many of you
submitted suggestions for improving the system and I
thank you for your input.
Below is an outline of recent enhancements that
were made to the system followed by a list of future
enhancements yet to be made.

My Properties
The Shopping Cart is Live
This brand new feature allows viewers to select from
a list of buildings or sites which can be grouped
into a comparative PDF file. To use this, go to the
live site and open the Buildings tab. Click on the My
Properties graphic. The status of your cart will
appear in text near the top of the page, indicating
the number of items you have chosen.
When you click on the plus sign next to a building or
site, the item will be added to your cart. A
minus sign will remove the item. When you are ready
to view all of the properties that you selected, click
on View My Properties. The list will appear in a new
window. You can then export those to a printable
PDF file. LOIS plans on changing the plus sign to a
checkmark to give users a better idea of what has
been chosen. This change is coming soon.

Advanced Search Button
Graphic Icon Has New Look
LOIS recently changed the look and feel of the
Advanced Search button to maintain a consistent
look among all graphic icons.

Copy Feature - NEW
For Buildings & Sites
As a new administrative tool, the copy feature allows
you to create a new record which keeps you from
having to retype the same information for another
building such as the address or specs.

Other Enhancements
Other Changes Recently Deployed
- Instruction Label Altered - LOIS recently
typed up a more detailed instruction label and placed
it at the top of the window inside the Download tab
to give users a more clear understanding of how to
download data to an Excel spreadsheet.
- Zoning Field Added - A Zoning Description field
has been added to the
building advanced search page on the live site.
- Pop-up Definitions - LOIS added some pop-up
definitions to the links
within each record in the administration site. The
definitions appear when you mouseover a link. This
will be especially helpful to administrators who may
be new to the system or for administrators who have
been away from LOIS for some time and are revisiting
the administration screen.

LOIS Plans Future Enhancements
LOIS is still working on the following enhancements:
- One-page quick view flyers for State, County and
Metros/Regions
- XML Import for State, County and Metro
sections
- Modify Date Filter in User Settings tab
- Fully automate realtor feature to allow users to
update through an automated process
- Allow users to upload images through XML
- Attach XML documentation (help files) on import
page in LOIS
The Advisory Council addressed other
suggestions and decided to create a new task list.
The list includes suggestions that were made by you,
by Forward and by other states who are using the
system. Wisconsin had the most suggestions which
shows how interested our state is and how involved
we are! Updates will be announced as time goes on.
Of course we are all anxiously waiting for the MSA
Updates. LOIS received updates for many other
states besides Wisconsin. They plan on uploading
them all at once. A notification will be sent as soon
as the data has been imported into LOIS.

How to Link to LOIS
Sample Layouts
Some of you have been asking how best to display
your link(s) to LOIS. I looked at some of the
communities who are using LOIS and found a nice and
simple layout on the
City
of Brookfield Web site. The St.
Croix Economic Development Corporation has
done a good job as well. Great work everyone!
